SHIP Low and Medium Temperature

Context

Worldwide, it is estimated that 67% of the energy consumed by the industrial sector corresponds to heat. Of this, 51% would be consumed in the low (T < 150°C) and medium (150°C < T < 400°C) temperature range.

These temperature ranges are achievable through flat-plate and concentrating solar collector technologies, which allow the delivery of heat to a wide variety of production processes in various industries, such as food, forestry, agriculture, chemicals, mining, paper, among others.

Potential in Chile

Based on the scenarios generated within the framework of the PELP (Long Term Energy Planning), it is estimated that at least 35.8% of Chile's primary energy consumption corresponds to heat, with a high share of fossil fuels. This implies that Chile has an important energy potential for decarbonization of its energy matrix, linked to the high levels of solar irradiation.
