Culminating a successful period of transfer of resources and projects in Biotechnology to Universidad Andrés Bello, the Fraunhofer Chile Research Foundation - represented by the President of its Board of Directors, Dr. Feckl and the General Manager of Fraunhofer Chile, Frank Dinter - accompanied the authorities of this house of studies in the opening ceremony of the new Systems Biology Laboratory of UNAB.
The representatives of Fraunhofer Chile and Fraunhofer Gesellschaft congratulated the UNAB University for this new stage, valuing that this milestone marks the closing of a successful collaboration between both entities, which allowed to give continuity to the achievements obtained by the Fraunhofer network in Chile in the area of biotechnology, given that the institution decided to concentrate its efforts on Solar Energy and projects linked to energy transition, decarbonization and Green Hydrogen issues, through an active link with the network of Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany and in strategic collaboration with partners such as the Energy Centre of the University of Chile.
"Today Fraunhofer wanted to be present at this ceremony because we are happy to see that the great achievements obtained in the past now reach a new stage. As an international institution of excellence in R&D, we firmly believe that collaboration is a fundamental value of our work, and we appreciate very positively that the seeds we plant years ago, bear fruit for the benefit of the Chilean community," said the President of Fraunhofer Chile and Fraunhofer Director International, Dr. Johann Feckl.
Science applied to development
The General Manager Frank Dinter emphasized that Fraunhofer Chile has a wide range of Solar Energy initiatives underway in the north, center and south of the country, actively collaborating with the public and private sectors to advance the goals of decarbonization of the economy and the energy transition in strategic sectors such as agriculture and mining.
"We know that today the country faces great challenges to face the effects of climate change, the ups and downs of the international economy and the post-pandemic social scenario, but if there is something we have learned from the experience of Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in Germany - which dates back to the post-war scenario and in which Fraunhofer was a main actor for the reactivation of the activity of SMEs and small companies - it is that crises are also opportunities, and that the Chilean government has a key ally in applied research centers to boost its economy, both at the level of large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises," explained Dinter.
