About Us

We are an R&D&I center dedicated to developing innovative solutions for industrial decarbonization.

As part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft network—the world’s leading organization for applied research in key sectors of the economy and society—we transfer technology and expertise from Germany to drive local impact.

Our Center for Solar Energy Technologies is co-financed by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) through its Capacity Strengthening Support Fund for R&D, as well as other public funds and industry projects.

The University of Chile serves as our co-executing partner, and we collaborate closely with its Energy Center. We also leverage the support and technical expertise of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). Over our 10 years of operation in the country, we have successfully implemented more than 130 projects.

About Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

Headquartered in Germany, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the world’s leading organization for applied research. It plays a pivotal role in the innovation process by prioritizing research into key future technologies and transferring findings to industry, thereby strengthening Germany as an industrial hub for the benefit of society.

Founded in 1949, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany. Its nearly 32,000 employees—primarily scientists and engineers—generate an annual research volume of €3.4 billion. Of this, €3 billion is derived from contract research, structured around three funding pillars:

  • Revenue from industry contracts and licensing fees totals €836 million. This high proportion of industrial revenue is Fraunhofer’s unique selling point within the German research landscape.
  • A significant share comes from publicly funded research projects.
  • The remaining portion consists of base funding provided by the German federal and state governments, enabling our institutes to develop solutions that will become relevant to the private sector and society in the coming years.
