Mix of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) and Photovoltaics would be an ideal complement to produce hydrogen in areas with low cloud cover and high solar irradiation, while alkaline electrolyzers show lower specific costs for H2V.

The tool identifies 57 strategic locations in northern Chile for free, determining the generation of electricity to supply an electrolysis plant up to the storage and transportation costs of the H2V generated. It will also have a low-cost customizable section that will allow simulating parameters according to the needs of each client, in a georeferenced manner.

On the way to finding solutions to protect water and benefit small farming communities, the Secretary of State and Delegate for Climate Action of the German Foreign Ministry, Jennifer Morgan, visited Fraunhofer Chile's Floating Photovoltaic pilot plant in Paine last Saturday. This successful project is financed by FIC-R of the Metropolitan Regional Government, and the visit is part of the agenda of activities of the Secretary of State, together with the German Ambassador to Chile, Irmgard Maria Fellner.

In a joint event organised by the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy Systems Technology, Fraunhofer IEE, Fraunhofer Chile and the Energy Centre of the University of Chile, the Spanish version of the "Global PtX Atlas" was launched. This is a freely accessible online application that shows global potential for Power-to-X technologies at coastal and inland locations outside the European Economic Area.

Culminating a successful period of transfer of resources and projects in Biotechnology to Universidad Andrés Bello, the Fraunhofer Chile Research Foundation - represented by the President of its Board of Directors, Dr. Feckl and the General Manager of Fraunhofer Chile, Frank Dinter - accompanied the authorities of this house of studies in the opening ceremony of the new Systems Biology Laboratory of UNAB.

- The Fraunhofer Chile Research Foundation from now on will mainly focus on applied R&D in the area of solar energy. Therefore, it is contributing its recog-nized scientific experience in the field of renewable energies via its Center for Solar Energy Technologies CSET. - In August this year, Fraunhofer Chile Research Foundation announced the clo-sure of its Center for Systems Biotechnology (CSB), but intends to preserve the acquired knowledge and capacities for Chile by transferring former CSB capabili-ties to Universidad Andrés Bello, one of the country´s leading research institu-tions. This became reality on November 29, 2021.

- The leading German expert - who until now served as Director of the Center for Solar Energy Technologies CSET - assumes this Monday, October 18, as General Manager. The Board of Directors of the Fraunhofer Chile Research Institution thanked and valued Dr. Pilar Parada after her departure for her great achievements, contribution and trajectory in the institution.

• A day of participatory work culminated in the preparation of strategic definitions for 2020, with which this center of excellence of CORFO and Fraunhofer Chile Research Foundation seeks to advance its goal of promoting sustainable development in Chile and Latin America.

• The conference was organized by the Fraunhofer Chile Center for Solar Energy Technologies and DMC Consultants, with the participation and support of the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, who stressed that "agriculture must be sustainable" and announced a working group to advance in public-private collaboration on this issue.

• As leader of the Solar Thermal Systems Group, the researcher María Teresa Cerda took over, while in the Photovoltaic Systems Group, the engineer and expert in solar resources and renewable energies, Aloïs Salmon, was appointed. Both professionals are part of the Center's research team, and have a vast and successful professional career.
